Mommy Pages – Nicole Brady

Nicole Brady

Nicole Brady has worked in television as a news anchor and reporter for over 15 years. She lives in Denver, Colorado with her two kids and her husband. She was one of BabyPage’s first users and helped us develop our platform to make things easier for busy parents. Her MommyPages interview includes some great advice!

  1. After having kids, what product can you not live without?
Besides the obvious baby products, a few things I buy all the time now – Magic Erasers. They get crayon off of everything!  Also things like portable iPhone chargers become really important.
  2. What was the best kid friendly vacation or day trip you’ve been on recently?
Sledding has been great lately.  And on colder days we’ve gone to the trampoline parks…they have areas for the littlest kids.
  3. What tools do you use to track your child’s milestones? (ex. baby book, notebook, spreadsheet, etc.)
Looking forward to using BabyPage more because I’m terrible at tracking milestones.  Just hoping I’ll remember enough from the pictures!
  4. What are your kid’s favorite books right now?
My 2 year old son loves a book called “Elmo Says“. It’s Simon Says, with Elmo. My 3 year old daughter is getting into the Berenstain Bear books that I grew up with!
  5. What is the grossest thing you’ve ever had to clean up?
My son gets car sick.  On our last big trip, to Minneapolis, he threw up in the rental car as soon as we got it…. then he threw up in it on the way back to the airport. We had to pull over at a Target, buy paper towels and jugs of water to clean out the car seat, strip his clothes and just throw them away, then drive the rest of the way to the airport with the windows down hoping the smell would be gone before we returned the car.  Fun trip!
  6. What’s a really useful product that you don’t see on a lot of registries?
The Nosefrida nasal aspirator (the “snot sucker”) seems weird and gross until you use it the first time and realize it’s a godsend.  I always give that to friends.
  7. Do you love your stroller and/or baby carrier, and would you recommend it?
Honestly the one I use the most is the $15 umbrella stroller I got at BabysRUs.  Once the kids are big enough, those are the easiest.
  8. What is your kids favorite toy right now?
My 3 year old daughter loves her little play cash register.  Mostly because she loves anything that you can put stuff in.  She loves collecting little “treasures” and hiding them in there. My 2 year old son is learning his letters and loves the toys that talk back to you, like the leap frog letter factory.
  9. What is something about having kids that you didn’t expect you would love?
That’s a tough question because in many cases it’s the reverse.  I “imagined” certain moments with the kids that I thought would be amazing, and they turned out to be more difficult or less entertaining than I thought.  I don’t mean that to sound depressing, it’s just like any reality failing to live up to your highest expectations. So don’t set your expectations too high! But that said, one thing I didn’t anticipate was how much they would learn outside the home, or from someone other than me, and I love hearing those things come out of their mouths later.  I love watching them become people separate from me.
  10. What advice would you give to first time moms?
I guess I said it .. keep your expectations in check!  And sleep with your kids even when you need sleep, because we’ll never get to do it again.
