  1. Magic Leprechaun Rocks – A leprechaun has left lumpy green rocks around the backyard for your children to find… Tell them they look dirty and they should wash them in a bowl (prepared with vinegar). These magical rocks will bubble and fizzle and turn into a gold coin!

  2. Golden Nugget Scavenger Hunt – Another version of the magical rocks left behind, would be this quick craft. Send the kids on a scavenger hunt where they collect “lucky” rocks and at the end of the trail they’ll find a glittering golden nugget!

  3. Leprechaun Pays a ‘Wee’ Visit – Leprechauns are tricky to catch, but your child might find remnant of their visit… Even in the bathroom! Use the edge of your first to make mini-footprints with green acrylic paint & put a single drop of green food dye in the toilet bowl. If you have boys, this is sure to erupt into giggles! (You may want to leave more mini-footprints on cleanable surfaces such as tile, to keep the prank going).

  4. Make a Mess – Those little pranksters sure do leave a mess behind after they’ve searched your house for gold! Knock a few chairs down, hang some toilet paper from the chandelier… the naughtier the better!

  5. Set a Trap – This is a fun craft to do with your kid, and it’s equally as fun to seeing their reaction when they check what is in the cage the next day. The trap could be as simple as propping up a piece of tupperware with a wooden spoon or you could get fancier with a shoebox converted into a sneaky disguise: This craft includes a rainbow trail, an enticing array of gold at the end, beckoning signs and a little mini-ladder! Before they wake, you could sprinkle some gold glitter to leave behind a trail of “leprechaun dust”, leave a “You Can’t Catch Me!” sign written in tiny letters, or throw some chocolate gold coins in there as a treat left from the leprechaun.

Traditions to Try:

  • Don’t forget to dress your child in green! You would’t want to subject them to a day full of pinches!
  • If clover grows in your area, try combing the yard for four-leaf clovers.
  • Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick’s Day feast—see how they like it!
